January is the best month of the year to step back and evaluate your digital presence before the tourist season accelerates. This checklist covers the ten areas that most directly affect how Maui businesses are found, trusted, and converted online.

Website Basics

  1. Mobile load time — Test your site on a real phone on cellular, not Wi-Fi. If it takes more than 3 seconds to fully load, that's a problem to fix now.
  2. Contact information — Is your phone number click-to-call? Is your address linked to Google Maps? Are your hours current?
  3. SSL certificate — Your URL should start with https://. If it still shows http://, visitors see a "Not Secure" warning and Google penalizes your ranking.
  4. Clear calls to action — Every page should tell visitors what to do next. "Call us," "Request a quote," "Book now." Don't make people guess.
  5. Broken links — Run your site through a free broken link checker. Dead links hurt SEO and frustrate visitors.

Search and Local Presence

  1. Google Business Profile — Log in and verify your hours, photos, services, and description are current. Add at least two new photos from the past 90 days.
  2. Recent reviews — Are you actively asking happy customers to leave reviews? Your review velocity — how often new reviews come in — affects your local ranking.
  3. Consistent NAP — Your Name, Address, and Phone number should be identical across your website, Google, Yelp, TripAdvisor, and any other directory. Inconsistencies confuse search engines.

Content and Social

  1. Last blog post date — When was your last piece of content published? Search engines interpret freshness as a quality signal. If your blog hasn't been updated in six months, now's the time.
  2. Social media consistency — You don't need to be on every platform. But wherever you are, you should be posting at least weekly. Dormant social accounts look abandoned to visitors checking you out.

Work through this list before February and you'll enter peak season with a stronger digital foundation than most of your competitors.
